Capacity and Capability

Our Lancashire-based fabrication facility is designed specifically to handle large, heavy and technically complex steelwork. Equipped with overhead cranage, CNC profiling equipment, coded welding bays, and specialist handling tools, we can process and assemble large-scale components efficiently and safely.

We routinely work with heavy plate, thick-walled sections, and fabricated assemblies exceeding several tonnes. Whether producing a one-off piece or a series of repeated units, we have the capacity and technical ability to deliver fully fabricated steelwork ready for installation or onward integration.

Certified to Execution Class 3 (EXC 3)

Holdens Engineering is certified under BS EN 1090 to Execution Class 3 (EXC 3), allowing us to fabricate structural steelwork for critical load-bearing applications such as bridges, transport infrastructure, industrial buildings, and heavy plant support systems.

This level of certification ensures that we can handle complex welds, high-stress designs, and high-reliability applications where structural integrity and compliance are essential. Our factory production control (FPC) system is independently audited, and our procedures are aligned with the requirements of CE and UKCA marking for structural products. All welding is carried out in accordance with qualified procedures (WPS), with welders certified to BS EN ISO 9606-1 and ASME IX standards. Welds are inspected through a combination of visual examination, NDT (including UT, MPI and DPI), and radiography where required.

Using CAD and 3D modelling software, we assist with detailing, fabrication drawings, welding sequence planning, and access for inspection or maintenance. Surface Preparation and Protective Coatings

Heavy-duty applications often require long-term corrosion protection, particularly in exposed, coastal, or industrial environments. Holdens offers a range of protective coating services either in-house or via trusted surface treatment partners. These include:

Shot blasting and manual surface preparation
Zinc-rich primers and epoxy multi-coat systems

All coatings are applied in accordance with system data sheets and client specifications, with DFT (dry film thickness) testing, adhesion testing, and curing records provided where applicable.
